Suzhou Team Transforms East Lawn, Embraces Our Core Values

In Suzhou, China, a beloved tradition is entering a colorful new chapter as the Essex Solutions team transforms the exterior of the facility.  

For nearly a decade, employees at the location have embraced a unique tradition of planting and caring for trees that connect them to nature, their upbringing, and one another. What began in 2019 as a “Hometown Forest,” with employees planting trees such as date, apple, and chestnut trees, quickly grew into a living symbol of shared stories and environmental stewardship. 

This year, the team is taking on a fresh approach. The fruit tree project is evolving into a vibrant flower garden on the East Lawn, bringing new color and energy to the grounds. As part of the transformation, the team has planted 12 cherry blossoms, chosen for their symbolism of beauty, patience, and the kind of growth that comes through thoughtful care.  

 

“Just as the fruit garden has become a testament to our commitment over the years, the flower garden will reflect our continued dedication to foster a vibrant and inspiring environment for years to come,” Anny Tang, HR Director for Asia, said. “This is more than gardening. It reflects who we are as a company: builders of the future, one step at a time.” 

While the project adds a touch of springtime beauty to the campus, it also furthers a deeper tradition. In China, planting trees carries a cultural significance and represents prosperity, renewal, and harmony with nature. By embracing that tradition, the Suzhou team has created a space that reflects both local culture and the shared values of the Essex Solutions community.  

Employees are already looking forward to when the blossoms appear, when the East Lawn will burst into color each spring. Like the trees planted before them, these cherry blossoms will grow alongside the team and serve as a reminder that small efforts today can create something meaningful for years to come.  

The new garden also reflects several Core Values in action. Projects like this come to life when teams collaborate and share ideas, demonstrating what it means to ‘Win Together.’ By creating a greener and more welcoming space for employees, visitors, and the surrounding community, the Suzhou team continues to ‘Make a Difference’ in meaningful ways.
